Unification of the Force
So, I like Star Wars. I'm not one of those Super Geeks. I can't tell you how many nose hairs didn't make it thru Han's Carbon Freeze. But, I'm a fan, nonetheless. I prefer to think of myself as a fan of the whole story. The tale that is being told, if you will. As opposed to having a bone for one particular character.
My favorite of both trilogies is The Empire Strikes Back. C'mon! Was there any doubt? Now, I'm a big fan of the Force. I know it spirituality lite, but it's good stuff to begin with. Also, big fan of the concept of the Jedi. However, some things about the Jedi stuck in my crawl. It always bugged me that Yoda told Luke that anger, fear and aggression lead to the dark-side. And once you give in to the dark-side, forever will it dominate your path. Now, I'm no professor of philosophy or anything. But, what I remember from 10th grade psychology about Carl Jung’s theory is this...if you don’t accept the “dark-side” of your personality, then those “dark” aspects end up controlling you. In other words, whatever you don’t accept about yourself will continue to haunt you. So, the Jedi push their feelings of anger/aggression aside. Not acknowledging them. That is why they can not see the dark-side underneath their noses. And that also makes them overconfident. A la Mace. And if you watch, there is much anger/attitude in the Jedi. Watch Obi-Wan in Menace. The way he uses his saber. He’s angry. The great Jedi knights can’t see the “dark-side” in themselves. And that is why they are about to get their a$$e$ handed to them.
Hang in there with me, I’m about to unify…
On the boards at force.net someone brought up the argument of the light-side v dark-side of the force. He points out that there is really only one force. It’s how you use the force that makes it dark or light. I agree with that statement. The Jedi never mention the “light-side” just the “dark-side of the force.” The Jedi are ignorant. Again, in order to be whole you must accept the things about yourself that you do not like. Applying it to the force, in order to truly use the force, you must accept all aspects of yourself. Even the bad.
Here it comes…
Luke, not being hampered by all the Jedi dogma, was able to unify all aspects of the force in order to redeem his father and defeat the Emperor. IE there are times that you need to be angry, that you need that aggression. It doesn’t have to dominate your path, only if you let it by not acknowledging or ignoring it.
I have always had a lot of respect for Yoda. But his talk of the “emotions” of the darkside bugged me. In a silly way, I guess that I’ve attempted to live my life in that way, but you can’t. I’ve realized that Yoda is mistaken in that matter. I’ve lost a lot of respect for the Jedi master. And gained much more respect for Luke. In fact, I never even “liked” Luke. However, I see that Luke is the true Jedi Master.
My conclusion…Luke is the chosen one. Not Anakin. Luke brings balance to the force. Not Anakin.
